A major web development problem used to be that it was not possible to run two or more versions of Internet Explorer on the same computer. That's no longer the case.

You can now run standalone versions of IE6, IE5.5, IE5, IE4 & IE3 alongside the latest version of IE7.

Standalone Internet Explorer versions 3-5.5 can be downloaded Evolt. Alternatively you can download a Multiple IE Installer from Tredosoft which automates the whole process.

However if you prefer to stay with IE6 you can run IE7 in standalone mode.

Important Notes:

  • Sometimes IE5, IE5.5 and IE6 crash unexpectedly.
  • The address bar in Internet Explorer 4.01 does not work. This is due to a missing file "browseui.dll". As a workaround, press CONTROL+O and enter the address you want to visit there.
  • Microsoft supplemental EULA says : IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A VALID EULA FOR ANY "OS PRODUCT", YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO INSTALL, COPY, OR OTHERWISE USE THE OS COMPONENTS AND YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS UNDER THIS SUPPLEMENTAL EULA.
